DIY: Avocado Sugar Scrub

I've seen tons of beauty product DIYs lately and I've always been kind of wary about making something at home to use on my skin or in my hair. The idea of putting food on my body just grosses me out, but a friend of mine was saying how inexpensive it can be to make your own products and since I am just about as poor as they come I figured I should give it a try! I love body scrubs to combat my dry scaly skin in the winter so I figured this would be a good place to start. I started googling scrubs and found tons of renditions and decided to make my own version. The next day Avocado's were on sale so I grabbed one and whipped up a mix of ingredients that I already had at my house. I made two different kinds and found one to certainly be more successful than the other! Lets discuss the good and I will give you a tip to avoid a "bad" unsuccessful scrub!
Kate's Successful Body Scrub:
-1/3 cup brown sugar
-1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil
-half an avocado
-splash of lemon juice
This body scrub was abrasive, so do not use if you're skin is not in dire need of an exfoliant! But it worked wonders and left my skin soft and replenished after use! I will absolutely make this again to help with my winter skin woes!

The scrub on the left was the successful scrub. The scrub on the right was made with avocado, sea salt, and lemon juice. I refrigerated my scrubs over night and the salt had mostly resolved into the mixture, so it was not very exfoliating, but I put some of it on my legs after I used the sugar scrub and found it moisturizing. If you want to make a sea salt scrub, do not put it in the fridge and maybe add some white sugar or add extra salt to help make it... scrubby! Next time, I plan smashing the extra half of the avocado to use on my skin after I exfoliate to nourish and moisturize skin!
Ultimately, my first ever beauty DIY was pretty successful and I will repeat this recipe since it really only costed me a dollar since I always have tons of brown sugar and lemon juice on hand! Yay for at home spa nights! What are some at home beauty DIY's you've tried??
